Frequently asked questions

  • What is a dental implant?

A dental implant, or dental transplant, is a single titanium screw placed in your jawbone with a false tooth attached on top. Dental implants can also be used to replace multiple missing teeth, often to provide a new full set of replacement teeth.
  • Why should I choose implants?

There are other options available to replace teeth, including bridges and dentures. However, neither of these offers the same strength, durability, and aesthetic appeal as teeth implants. By fusing to the jawbone, implants create the next best thing to a natural tooth root, removing any potential eating or speech issues.
  • Am I suitable for implant treatment?

Most people are suitable candidates for a tooth transplant if they are generally healthy and have good oral health. We will thoroughly discuss your overall suitability for implant treatment at your initial consultation.
  • How long does the dental implant treatment process take?

The whole process, from consultation with the dental implant dentist to your secure fixed replacement teeth, can take several months. The implant surgery is a relatively quick procedure, but the implants themselves need around 3-6 months to heal and fuse before fixed permanent teeth can be placed. The treatment process will be longer if you need a bone graft or other procedure first, but your new smile will be more than worth it in the end.
  • How long do dental implants last?

Statistics show dental implants last on average ten to fifteen years, making them the ideal treatment for missing teeth. However, they can last much longer, provided they are surgically placed correctly and accurately and looked after properly. This includes maintaining an excellent brushing and flossing routine, looking after your general health, and attending regular check-up appointments with your dentist. The crown or bridge that the implant supports may need to be replaced over time due to normal wear and tear.
  • Will the procedure hurt?

Dental implants are inserted into the jawbone under local anaesthetic, so the procedure is not painful. Just like with any other dental procedure, local anaesthetic takes away any painful sensation for a number of hours so that you can comfortably undergo the procedure without the risks that are carried by the use of general anaesthetics (where you are not conscious).

Following the procedure, it is usual to experience some discomfort for two to three days, after which symptoms should begin to resolve. In this time, you should carefully follow post-operative instructions to ensure quick and uneventful healing. Over-the-counter painkillers are often recommended and are sufficient to get you through this period comfortably. After a few days, and from then on, you will feel no sensation from your dental implant.

Went on a Sunday as my normal dentist was closed . I am a very nervous patient and was treated so gently , everything was explained and I was not rushed . Both the dentist and the receptionist were charming - didn’t talk me into unnecessary treatment and it was a very reasonable price considering it was out of hours . I would fully recommend

I have not been to a dentist for a while due to being fearful and I could not fault their support and understanding. My dentist has been brilliantly supportive enabling me to take my time when having a check up and having everything explained so that I know what to expect and what's involved. This has really helped to restore my confidence in receiving dental treatment. Thank you Toothi Dental Team for all the care and professionalism you provide for each patient.
