Why regular hygiene visits are worth it
- ✓ Gum disease is silent — bleeding gums, bad breath and eventually loose teeth develop slowly; hygiene visits catch and reverse early gum disease before damage is done
- ✓ Protects every other investment — whitening, bonding, implants and Invisalign all last longer with healthy gums (implant patients: dedicated implant hygiene is £150)
- ✓ Fresher breath, brighter smile — stain removal makes a visible difference on the day
- ✓ Personal coaching — honest, practical advice on brushing, interdental cleaning and diet, tailored to your mouth

Hygiene FAQs
How often should I have a hygiene appointment?
Every six months suits most people; if you have gum disease, stain heavily or wear implants or braces, we may recommend every three to four months. We’ll advise honestly based on your mouth, not a formula.
Does a scale and polish hurt?
It shouldn’t — most people find it comfortable. If your gums are tender or sensitive, tell us; we work gently and can adjust our approach.
What is Airflow and is it worth it?
Airflow polishes with a fine jet of water, air and powder instead of scraping — it’s gentler, more comfortable and much better at lifting tea, coffee, wine and smoking stains. If staining bothers you, it’s the upgrade worth having (£125).
Will a hygiene visit whiten my teeth?
It removes surface stains, so teeth look noticeably cleaner and brighter — but it doesn’t change the underlying shade. For that, see our professional teeth whitening (and a hygiene clean first gives whitening the best start).
My gums bleed when I brush — is that normal?
No — bleeding gums are the earliest sign of gum disease. The good news: caught early, it’s fully reversible with professional cleaning and good home care. Don’t ignore it; book a visit.
Do I need to be a registered patient?
No — you’re welcome to book hygiene visits directly. We’re open seven days a week including Saturdays and Sundays.
