Teeth whitening is one of the most popular cosmetic treatments in the UK, and done properly it’s also one of the safest. “Properly” is the important bit. Here’s what to know before you start.
Is it safe?
Whitening carried out or prescribed by a dentist is safe for the vast majority of people. We use regulated products, protect your gums and set the strength to suit your teeth, so it works without damaging the enamel.
Why dentist-led matters
In the UK it’s illegal for anyone who isn’t a registered dental professional to whiten teeth. Salon and DIY kits aren’t regulated. They often use the wrong concentration and can burn the gums or leave teeth patchy. With a dentist doing it, it works and it’s safe.
Will it hurt my teeth?
Some people get a bit of sensitivity, which usually settles within a day or two. It doesn’t weaken your teeth. If you’re prone to sensitivity, we can adjust the treatment.
What does safe, dentist-led whitening cost?
At Toothi London in Edgware it’s £250 for a single in-practice session or £350 for custom home trays with professional gel, after a £55 examination.
