Can you get Invisalign with implants or crowns?
Toothi London, Edgware · Last reviewed 25 October 2026
Yes, you can usually have Invisalign if you have an implant or crowns. An implant is fused to the bone, so aligners can’t move it; the other teeth move around it. If you need an implant and straightening, the usual order is straighten first, then implant. At Toothi in Edgware, we plan both together.
So the planning matters more than usual. Get the order wrong and an implant can end up in a spot that no longer suits the straightened smile. This is how the two treatments fit together.
The Key Fact
Can Invisalign move a dental implant?
No. A natural tooth sits in a ligament that lets it move slowly under gentle pressure. An implant has no ligament; it bonds directly to the jawbone, so it stays exactly where it was placed. Aligners can’t move it, and neither can any brace.
That doesn’t stop treatment. The implant just becomes a fixed point. The aligner is made to fit over it without pushing it, and the plan moves the natural teeth around it. Sometimes the implant can even be useful as a stable anchor. It does mean the final position of your other teeth has to work with where the implant already is.
The Right Order
Should you get Invisalign before or after implants?
If you’re missing a tooth and also want straighter teeth, the usual approach is to straighten first and place the implant afterwards. That way the gap can be opened or closed to the ideal width, the neighbouring teeth are upright, and the implant goes into a space designed for it.
One plan
A free consultation and iTero scan for the Invisalign side, plus a free implant consultation with a written plan, so both are designed together.
Straighten
Aligners move the natural teeth and shape the space. A temporary tooth can often be built into the aligner so the gap doesn’t show.
Implant
Once teeth are in position and held with a retainer, the implant is planned digitally and placed into the finished space.
Crown and retainers
After healing the implant crown is fitted to match, and retainers keep everything stable.
If you already have an implant, the plan works around it. One thing to know: if teeth next to an older implant are moved, the implant crown may no longer match its neighbours perfectly at the end, and occasionally a new crown is the tidiest finish. We’ll tell you at the planning stage if we expect that. If you’re still weighing up how to fill the gap, see our guide to missing tooth replacement options.
Crowns & Bridges
Can you get Invisalign with crowns?
Yes. Unlike an implant, a crowned natural tooth still has its root and ligament, so it moves like any other tooth. The main difference is attachments: composite bonds less well to porcelain or metal, so we may use a special bonding technique or plan around that tooth.
A fixed bridge is different. It joins two or more teeth together, so they can only move as one unit. Depending on the plan, a bridge may need to be worked around or replaced after straightening. We check all existing crowns and bridges at the consultation, along with your check-up and X-rays, because patients need to be dentally fit before Invisalign starts.
Costs
How much do Invisalign and an implant cost at Toothi?
Both are fixed-price at Toothi. You choose the Invisalign package that suits your case, and the implant price includes the crown. The 3D CBCT scan needed to plan an implant is taken at a referral imaging centre and paid to them directly; it isn’t included in our price.

Common Questions
Invisalign with implants FAQs
Can you get Invisalign if you have an implant?
Usually, yes. The implant can’t be moved, so the aligners move the natural teeth around it. Your plan is designed with the implant as a fixed point.
Should I get Invisalign or an implant first?
If you need both, straightening usually comes first so the implant can be placed into a space that’s the right size and shape. Your dentist will confirm the order for your case.
Can Invisalign close the gap from a missing tooth instead of an implant?
Sometimes a small gap can be closed with aligners, but it depends on the space, the bite and which tooth is missing. Larger gaps or complex bite changes are usually referred on to an orthodontist.
Can you have Invisalign with crowns or veneers?
Yes. Crowned teeth still move normally. Attachments may need a special bonding technique on porcelain. Bridges join teeth together and may need to be worked around.
Can I hide the gap while straightening?
Often a tooth-coloured filler can be built into the aligner over the gap, so it’s less noticeable until the implant is placed.
Is the CBCT scan included in the implant price?
No. The CBCT scan is taken at a referral imaging centre and paid to them directly. The Invisalign iTero scan is separate, in-house and free.
