Option 1

Can you replace a missing tooth with a dental implant?

An implant replaces the root with a titanium post and carries its own crown, so the teeth either side are left alone. It’s fixed, it’s the closest thing to a natural tooth, and it helps keep the jaw bone in place. You do need enough bone and healthy gums. It involves minor surgery under local anaesthetic and typically takes around 3 to 6 months to complete.

At Toothi a single implant is £1,995, including the Osstem implant, abutment, porcelain crown and all reviews. A bone graft (from £395) is added only if your scan shows it’s needed. See dental implant cost UK and front tooth implants.

Option 2

Can a bridge replace a missing tooth?

A conventional bridge fixes a false tooth to crowns on the neighbouring teeth. It’s quick (usually two visits) and there’s no surgery. The trade-off is that those teeth are prepared for crowns and the bridge depends on them staying healthy. It suits gaps where the neighbours already need crowns. Compare the two in dental implant vs bridge.

Option 3

Is a partial denture a good way to replace missing teeth?

A partial denture is a removable plate carrying one or more false teeth. Among these options it has the lowest fee on the day, from £595 at Toothi, is quick to make, and can replace several gaps at once. You take it out to clean it, it can take a while to get used to, and it doesn’t stop the bone from shrinking, so it may need adjusting or remaking over time. See dentures at Toothi, and for a short-term fix while you decide, temporary tooth replacement options.

Option 4

How do you replace several or all teeth with implants?

Where several teeth are missing, a few implants can support many teeth. An implant bridge replaces three teeth in a row on two implants (£4,495). An implant-retained denture clips onto 2 to 4 implants per arch and stays firmly in place (£7,995 per arch). Fixed full-arch bridges are priced on assessment. Does It Matter?

What happens if you don’t replace a missing tooth?

Some people leave a gap, and that’s a fair choice. Worth knowing what tends to happen, though.

  • ✓  Neighbouring teeth can drift or tilt into the space, and the opposing tooth can over-erupt.
  • ✓  Bone gradually shrinks where the root used to be, which can make an implant harder later.
  • ✓  Chewing load shifts to other teeth.
  • ✓  Appearance may matter more for front teeth than back teeth.

Common Questions

Replacing missing teeth FAQs

What is the best way to replace a missing tooth?

It depends on your situation. For one tooth between healthy teeth, an implant is often the strongest long-term choice. A bridge may suit when neighbours need crowns anyway, and a partial denture suits several gaps or when surgery isn’t right.

Which option has the lowest fee?

At Toothi’s published prices, a partial denture (from £595) has the lowest fee on the day. A conventional bridge is from £595 per unit and an implant £1,995 including the crown. Think too about how long each typically lasts.

How soon after an extraction can I replace the tooth?

It varies. A denture can be made fairly quickly. An implant is often placed after the socket has healed for a few months; socket preservation at extraction can help keep the bone ready.

Can I replace a missing tooth without an implant?

Yes. A conventional bridge or a partial denture both replace a missing tooth without surgery.

How long do the different options last?

Implants can last many years with care, though crowns may need replacing; bridges commonly last around 10 to 15 years; partial dentures are usually adjusted or remade sooner. None is guaranteed.

Do I need a consultation first?

Yes. At Toothi the implant consultation is free and you leave with a written plan comparing your options and fees.
