Appearance
Will an implant for a front tooth look natural?
The aim is a tooth that blends in with its neighbours in shape, shade and the way the gum sits around it. Front teeth are the ones people see, so the planning matters more here than anywhere else in the mouth.
- ✓ Position. The implant is digitally planned from the CBCT scan, and placed with a surgical guide where appropriate, so the crown can emerge in the right place. See guided implant surgery.
- ✓ Bone and gum. Front-tooth bone is often thin. A graft may be advised to support the gum line; see bone grafts for dental implants.
- ✓ Shade. The porcelain crown is matched to your neighbouring teeth. If you’re thinking of whitening, do it before the crown is made, because crowns don’t change colour.
- ✓ Surrounding teeth. If neighbouring teeth are chipped or uneven, composite bonding can sometimes help them match.
In the Meantime
Will I have a gap while it heals?
Most people don’t want a visible gap at the front, and there are temporary options to cover it while the implant heals, such as a small removable denture or a bonded temporary tooth. Which suits you depends on your bite and the healing site, so we discuss a temporary option at your consultation and include it in your plan. See temporary tooth replacement options.
The Process
How is a front tooth implant done?
Treatment typically takes around 3 to 6 months from placement to the final crown, longer if a graft or extraction healing is needed first. Placement is under local anaesthetic.

Alternatives
What are the alternatives to a front tooth implant?
A conventional bridge (from £595 per unit) fixes a false tooth to the neighbouring teeth, and a partial denture (from £595) is a removable option. Each has trade-offs for looks, upkeep and your other teeth. Compare them in dental implant vs bridge and missing tooth replacement options.

Common Questions
Front tooth implant FAQs
How much is a front tooth implant in the UK?
Fees vary between practices. At Toothi in Edgware a front tooth implant is £1,995 including the implant, abutment, porcelain crown and all reviews. The CBCT scan is paid separately to the imaging centre.
Can you get a front tooth implant the same day?
An implant usually needs a few months of healing before the final crown. We discuss temporary options with you at your consultation so you aren’t left with a visible gap.
Does a front tooth implant look real?
The aim is a crown matched in shape and shade to your own teeth, with the gum sitting naturally around it. Careful planning and, where needed, bone grafting help achieve this. Results vary between patients.
Does a front tooth implant hurt?
Placement is done under local anaesthetic, so you should feel pressure rather than pain. Mild soreness and swelling for a few days afterwards is common.
How long does a front tooth implant last?
An implant can last many years, often decades, with good care, though the crown may need replacing over time. Lifespans aren’t guaranteed.
Do I need a bone graft for a front tooth implant?
Sometimes, because bone at the front is often thin. The CBCT scan shows whether one is needed; at Toothi a minor graft is from £395.
