Your dental implant consultation, step by step
Toothi London, Edgware · Last reviewed 25 October 2026
A dental implant consultation at Toothi in Edgware is free and you leave with a written treatment plan and a fixed fee. We examine the gap, go through your options and medical history, and tell you straight whether an implant suits you. A single implant including the crown is £1,995. If you need a 3D CBCT scan, it’s taken at a referral imaging centre and you pay them directly. It isn’t part of the free consultation or the £1,995.
The appointment
What happens at a dental implant consultation?
The consultation is a conversation and an examination, not treatment. Nothing is drilled or placed, and there’s no obligation to go ahead. Most people find it more relaxed than they expected.
Your story
Which tooth is missing or failing, how long it’s been like that, what bothers you about it and what you’d like at the end.
Medical history
We go through your health, medicines, smoking and any conditions such as diabetes, because these affect healing and suitability.
Examination
Your dentist looks at the gap, the gum, the neighbouring teeth and your bite, and checks for gum disease or decay that would need treating first.
Options, honestly
An implant is one option. We also go through a bridge, a denture or leaving the gap, and the trade-offs of each.
Written plan
You leave with a written plan setting out the recommended treatment, the stages and the fixed fee. You decide in your own time.
If you’re not sure you even want an implant, our comparison of implants, dentures and bridges is a useful read before you come in.
3D imaging
Do you need a CT scan for a dental implant?
Usually, yes. Before an implant is placed we need to see the height, width and quality of the bone in three dimensions, and where nearby structures such as nerves and the sinus sit. That’s what a cone beam CT (CBCT) scan shows. A standard dental X-ray only shows two.
- ✓ Where it’s taken. We refer you to a referral imaging centre for the CBCT scan. It’s quick and painless, well under a minute while you stand or sit still.
- ✓ How it’s paid for. The imaging centre sets its own fee and you pay them directly. The CBCT scan isn’t included in the free consultation or in the £1,995 implant fee, and we’ll tell you that before you book it.
- ✓ What happens next. The scan comes to us and we use it to confirm whether there’s enough bone, whether grafting is needed, and exactly where the implant should go.
- ✓ Not the same as the Invisalign scan. The iTero scan we use for Invisalign is a surface scan of the teeth taken here in the practice. It doesn’t show bone, so it can’t replace a CBCT for implant planning.

What does the written implant plan include?
Your plan tells you what we recommend, why, how many stages there are and what it costs in total. The fee is fixed before treatment starts, so nothing changes once you’re in the chair.
- ✓ The recommended treatment. Which implant, where, and whether any preparatory work such as treating gum disease or a bone graft is needed first.
- ✓ Digital planning and a surgical guide. When your implant is placed using guided surgery, the digital plan and the 3D-printed surgical guide are included in the £1,995. Read more in our guide to guided implant surgery.
- ✓ The timeline. Healing time varies, so we give you a typical timeline for your case rather than a promise. Our page on how long implant treatment takes explains the stages.
- ✓ The fixed fee. From our published fees, and confirmed in writing.

Preparing
What should I bring to an implant consultation?
Bring a list of your medicines and anything you want to ask. If you’ve had recent X-rays or scans with another dentist, bring copies or ask them to send them over. They help with planning.
- ✓ Your medicines. Names and doses, including blood thinners, osteoporosis medicines and anything for diabetes.
- ✓ Your questions. Write them down. Nothing is too small to ask.
- ✓ Honesty about smoking. Smoking affects healing, and we’d rather plan around it than be surprised. See implants, smoking and diabetes.
- ✓ Any worries. If you’re anxious, tell us at the consultation and we’ll plan the appointments around you. Our guide do dental implants hurt? explains what placement feels like.
Our main dental implants in Edgware page covers the treatment in full.
Common Questions
Implant consultation FAQs
Is the dental implant consultation free?
Yes. The implant consultation at Toothi is free and includes a written treatment plan with a fixed fee. There’s no obligation to go ahead. The CBCT scan, if you need one, is separate: it’s taken at a referral imaging centre and paid to them directly.
How long does an implant consultation take?
Allow around 30 to 45 minutes. That’s enough for your history, the examination and a proper talk about your options and questions.
Is the CBCT scan included in the implant price?
No. The CBCT scan is taken at a referral imaging centre and paid to them directly. It isn’t included in the free consultation or in the £1,995 single implant fee.
Will I have the implant placed on the same day as the consultation?
No. The consultation is for assessment and planning. Implant placement is booked as a separate appointment once the plan is agreed and any scan has been reviewed.
What if I am not suitable for an implant?
Then we’ll tell you, explain why, and go through the alternatives such as a bridge or a denture. Sometimes another treatment, such as treating gum disease or a bone graft, is needed first.
Do I need to be registered with Toothi to have a consultation?
No. You can book an implant consultation as a new patient without being registered with us for routine care.
