If you’ve lost a tooth, or several, there are three main ways to replace them: a dental implant, a bridge or a denture. Each has its place. Here’s how they compare in plain English.
Dental implants
A titanium post replaces the tooth root and is topped with a natural-looking crown. Implants are the closest thing to a real tooth: stable, they don’t affect neighbouring teeth, and they can last decades. They cost more upfront and take a few months to complete.
Bridges
A false tooth is anchored to the teeth on either side. A bridge is fixed, quicker than an implant and cheaper upfront, but it means preparing otherwise healthy neighbouring teeth.
Dentures
Removable replacements for one, several or all teeth. Dentures are the most affordable option and can be made quickly, though some people find them less stable than fixed alternatives.
Which should you choose?
It comes down to how many teeth are missing, your bone, your budget and how permanent you want the result. A quick assessment makes the right path clear.
