Comparison
Dentures cost: NHS vs private
Toothi is a fully private practice and does not provide NHS treatment. These are the official NHS charges in England from 1 April 2026.
| NHS (England) | Toothi London (private) | |
|---|---|---|
| Partial denture | Band 3: £332.10 | from £595 |
| Complete denture | Band 3: £332.10 | from £995 per arch |
| Implant-retained denture | Not usually available on the NHS | £7,995 per arch (2 to 4 implants) |
| Materials and design | Chosen on clinical need | Discussed with you, including acrylic and chrome options |
The NHS Band 3 charge covers the whole course of treatment, including the denture and the appointments to make it. NHS dentures are designed to meet clinical need and many people wear them comfortably for years. Private denture prices vary between practices, so compare published price lists if you are deciding.
Types
What types of dentures are there?
- ✓ Acrylic dentures. Made from a gum-coloured acrylic base with acrylic teeth. They can be used for partial or complete dentures, are relatively quick to make and are easy to add teeth to later if needed.
- ✓ Chrome (cobalt chrome) partial dentures. Built on a thin, strong metal framework that clips to your natural teeth. They are usually less bulky than acrylic and can feel more stable. Read more about chrome dentures.
- ✓ Complete dentures. Replace all the teeth in an arch. Upper dentures rely on suction against the palate; lower dentures can be harder to keep steady because of the tongue and smaller ridge.
- ✓ Implant-retained dentures. Clip on to 2 to 4 dental implants, which can make them much more secure, particularly for the lower jaw. See our page on implant-retained dentures.
Price Factors
What affects the price of false teeth?
- ✓ Partial or complete. Complete dentures replace a full arch; partial dentures vary with how many teeth are replaced.
- ✓ Material. A chrome framework involves more laboratory work than an all-acrylic design.
- ✓ Your mouth. The shape of your gums and remaining teeth affects design and the number of fitting visits.
- ✓ Preparatory treatment. Some people need fillings, extractions or gum treatment first. That is priced separately.
- ✓ Implant support. An implant-retained denture includes the implants as well as the denture itself.
Process
What’s included and how many visits does it take?
The denture price covers the impressions, laboratory work, try-in and fitting, plus adjustments around the time of fitting. Most conventional dentures take several appointments over a few weeks.
Assess
Examination, x-rays if needed, and a discussion of what you want from your denture.
Impressions
Moulds or scans of your mouth are taken so the laboratory can make an accurate base.
Bite and try-in
We record how your jaws meet and you try the teeth in wax so you can see the look before it is finished.
Fit and review
The finished denture is fitted and reviewed, with small adjustments as your mouth settles.
Dentures usually feel strange at first. Most people adapt to speaking and eating with them over a few weeks.
Lifespan
How long do dentures last?
It varies. Many dentures last several years, but the gums and bone underneath change shape over time, so a denture that fitted well at first can become loose. At that point it may need a reline, where the fitting surface is rebuilt, or replacing. Repairs and relines are quoted in writing after assessment. Regular check-ups let us spot fit problems and sore spots early.
Value
Is it worth paying privately for dentures?
NHS dentures meet clinical need at a set charge and suit many people well. Some choose private dentures to have more input into the design and appearance, to choose a chrome framework, to have more appointment time, or to consider implant-retained options that are not usually available on the NHS.

Dentures Cost FAQs
How much do dentures cost privately?
At Toothi London a partial denture is from £595 and a complete denture is from £995 per arch. An implant-retained denture is £7,995 per arch with 2 to 4 implants. Private prices vary between practices.
How much are dentures on the NHS?
In England dentures fall under Band 3, which is £332.10 from 1 April 2026. That charge covers the course of treatment. Toothi is a private practice and does not provide NHS treatment.
What is the difference between acrylic and chrome dentures?
Acrylic dentures use a plastic base and are quick to make and easy to adjust. Chrome partial dentures have a thin metal framework, which usually makes them less bulky and more stable.
How many appointments does it take to get dentures?
Most conventional dentures take several appointments over a few weeks: assessment, impressions, a bite and try-in stage, then fitting and review. Implant-retained dentures take longer because the implants need time to heal.
How long do dentures last?
Many dentures last several years, but your gums and bone change shape over time, so the fit can loosen. A reline or replacement may then be needed. Repairs and relines are quoted after assessment.
Do you repair or reline dentures?
Yes, after assessing the denture. Repairs and relines are quoted in writing once we have seen it, as the work needed varies.
Are implant-retained dentures more secure?
They usually are, because the denture clips on to implants rather than relying on suction alone. This is often most noticeable for lower dentures. Your dentist will assess whether implants are suitable for you.
