“Nanofill Composite Bonding®” is a registered name used by Yorkshire Dental Suite for its own bonding service. The idea behind it, tooth-coloured composite filled with very fine particles, is in wide use. At Toothi in Edgware we bond with a high-quality nano-hybrid composite: edge bonding is £195 per tooth and composite veneers £295 per tooth. Here’s what the term means and what to ask any clinic.

The Name

Is Nanofill Composite Bonding a type of treatment or a brand?

Written with the ® symbol, it’s a brand. Yorkshire Dental Suite uses “Nanofill Composite Bonding®” as the name of the composite bonding treatment it offers at its own clinics, and Toothi has no connection with them. We don’t offer a treatment by that name.

People searching the phrase usually want to know what the material is, whether it’s any better, and what it costs. We can answer those, because the material underneath (nano-filled and nano-hybrid composite resins) is used by dentists all over the UK.

The Material

What is a nano-hybrid composite?

Dental composite is a tooth-coloured resin packed with tiny glass or ceramic “filler” particles. The size and mix of those particles affects how the material handles, how well it polishes and how it wears. Modern materials are broadly grouped by filler size.

  • ✓  Nanofilled composites use extremely small particles, measured in nanometres. They tend to polish to a high gloss and hold that shine well.
  • ✓  Nano-hybrid composites mix nano-sized particles with slightly larger ones. The aim is the polish of a nanofill with extra strength for biting edges.
  • ✓  Older microfill and hybrid composites are still in use, but most cosmetic bonding today is done with nanofilled or nano-hybrid materials.

No material is perfect. Composite can still stain, chip and wear over time, and it needs polishing every so often to keep its lustre. The material is only one part of a good result.

Does the composite brand matter more than the dentist?

Usually not. Most good composites on the UK market perform well. Whether the result looks natural or obvious comes down to the dentistry.

  • ✓  Shade matching and layering. Two or three shades layered to copy the depth of enamel, not a single flat colour.
  • ✓  Shape and proportion. Teeth sculpted to suit your face and smile line.
  • ✓  Bite check. Composite that takes a heavy knock every time you bite will chip, so we check your bite before you leave.
  • ✓  Finishing and polish. A careful polish is what makes composite look like enamel.
  • ✓  Review. A follow-up appointment to refine edges and check how the bonding has settled.

Common Questions

Nanofill composite bonding FAQs

What is nanofill composite bonding?

Written with ®, it’s the name Yorkshire Dental Suite uses for its bonding service. In general terms, it describes bonding with a composite resin containing very fine, nano-sized filler particles, which polish well.

Does Toothi offer Nanofill Composite Bonding®?

No. That name belongs to another clinic. We offer composite bonding using a high-quality nano-hybrid composite.

How much does nano-hybrid composite bonding cost at Toothi?

Edge bonding is £195 per tooth (£695 for four, £995 for six) and composite veneers are £295 per tooth. The consultation is free.

Is nanofilled composite better than other composite?

It tends to polish to a higher shine. Durability and appearance depend at least as much on shade matching, shaping, bite and polishing as on the material.

How long does composite bonding last?

With care, bonding can last several years before it needs repair or replacement. Grinding and biting hard objects shorten its life. See how long composite bonding lasts.

Does composite bonding damage your teeth?

Bonding usually needs little or no drilling and can be repaired or removed later.
